The new Lake Theater opened its doors in February 1940, anticipated to be “one of the finest in South Florida” according to the Palm Beach Post. Located downtown Lake Worth, on Lake Ave., it is known for its architectural significance that would eventually influence the surrounding Art Deco facades found in Lake Worth today.
Taking on several roles over the past decades, it has eventually become home to the Cultural Council of Palm Beach County. After extensive restoration and some adaptive reuse work, the Council now operates in the facility years round and its galleries, visitor information center, and store featuring local artists are open to the public free of charge.
